Milazzo, a land rich in history, sea, and wonders
Discover the magic of Sicily
Staying at Sisters' Home means being in a strategic position to explore some of the most fascinating wonders of northeastern Sicily. Milazzo is a city rich in history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes, where every corner has a story to tell: from the sea to the hills, from the ancient fortifications to the small seaside villages.
Whether you love relaxing on the beach, exploring culture, or enjoying food and wine, you'll always find something to experience.
Milazzo Castle
Suspended between history and legend, Milazzo Castle dominates the city from above like an ancient stone guardian. It is one of the largest fortified citadels in Sicily, a layered complex that speaks to centuries of rule: from the Normans to the Swabians, from the Aragonese to the Spanish. Strolling within its walls, one loses oneself among courtyards, bastions, churches, and prisons. Every stone seems to whisper stories of sieges, nobles, and battles. The view is breathtaking: on one side, the deep blue Tyrrhenian Sea, on the other, the Aeolian Islands seemingly floating on the horizon.
Cape Milazzo and the Pool of Venus
Cape Milazzo is a wild and romantic promontory, where nature reigns supreme. After a stroll among olive trees, prickly pears, and paths winding through the Mediterranean scrub, you reach a small wonder: the Pool of Venus. It's a natural basin carved into the rock, filled with crystal-clear sea water. The place has an almost mythological aura, and according to legend, the goddess Venus came here to bathe. Swimming in this hidden corner, with the sun dancing on the water and the scent of the sea all around, is an unforgettable experience.
Ancient Village of Milazzo
In the heart of the city lies the Borgo Antico, a labyrinth of cobbled alleys, stone arches, flower-filled balconies, and old shops. It is the authentic face of Milazzo, where time seems to have stood still. Walking through these quiet streets, you'll encounter baroque churches, carved doorways, and secret courtyards. The houses, built one on top of the other like an irregular mosaic, enshrine the soul of the city. In the evening, the soft lighting creates an intimate and evocative atmosphere, perfect for a romantic stroll or dinner in a local trattoria.
Spiaggia di Ponente and Baia del Tono
Spiaggia di Ponente (West Beach) is a long, golden embrace of sand that stretches for kilometers along the coast. Here, the sea is transparent, calm, and scented with salt, and the sun sets behind the Aeolian Islands with a burst of orange and purple. At the end of the beach lies Baia del Tono, a small, picturesque cove with low houses, boats pulled ashore, and a small white church perched among the rocks. It's a place where life moves slowly, perfect for those seeking relaxation and authenticity.
Sanctuary of Saint Anthony of Padua
Carved into the living rock of Capo Milazzo, the Sanctuary of Saint Anthony is one of the most spiritual and mysterious places in the area. According to tradition, the saint found refuge in this cave during a storm while traveling by sea. Today, the cave has become a small church, with simple altars and damp walls that seem to hold the earth's breath. The view from the square in front is extraordinary: sea, rocks, silence. It's a perfect place to stop and reflect, pray, or simply listen to the wind.
